Commitment unlocks Suzuki's SA future

The arrival of two innovative passenger car models this month heralds the start of an exciting new chapter for the Suzuki brand in South Africa.

The launch of the new Swift and SX4 hatchbacks not only marks the beginning of Suzuki Motor Corporation's first, concerted participation in the South African passenger car market. It also represents a major commitment by the global automotive brand.

For the newly established Suzuki Auto South Africa, the Swift and SX4 are the first models in an aggressive and committed product plan that will see the brand became a significant player in the SA automotive landscape.

Of course, the Suzuki brand is no stranger to SA consumers. Suzuki motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and outboard marine products have been imported and distributed locally by Suzuki South Africa since 1964. These products have consistently been among the market leaders in performance, quality, reliability and value terms.

Until 2004, Suzuki passenger vehicles – mainly Vitara and Jimny models – were sold in SA under the auspices of the former Delta Motor Corporation, and established a loyal following due to their reputation for exceptional quality. Trend-setting design, performance and value for money are acknowledged Suzuki attributes that have further cemented the brand's status as a dynamic Japanese manufacturer of enviable, aspirational vehicles .

As a majority-owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Suzuki Auto SA epitomises an entirely new era for the brand locally. The local operation will be an integral part of the vast and vibrant SMC global network from the outset.

Suzuki Auto SA is a joint initiative between Suzuki Motor Corporation and Suzuki SA, with SMC holding an 85 percent majority share in the exciting new venture. Suzuki SA, responsible for Suzuki's motorcycle, ATV and marine products, holds the remaining 15 percent.

The Suzuki Auto SA head office is centrally located in the Linbro Business Park in Marlboro, Sandton, and includes a dedicated training centre and extensive parts warehousing facilities.

The importance of the SA operation in Suzuki's broader global strategy is evident in the fact that the top Suzuki Auto SA management structure was appointed directly by the parent company.
